The founder of the firm was J. L. Murphy, who started practice in Covington County, Alabama, about 1917 in association with a Greenville, Alabama firm. After a year in Andalusia, J. L. Murphy purchased the assets of Covington Abstract Company and began solo practice upstairs in the same building where we are located today.

After World War II, Ray W. Murphy joined his father in practice as Murphy & Murphy and the firm became well known as a real estate firm in the area. The name Murphy & Murphy was retained following J. L.’s death in 1961. J. Mark Murphy came into the practice in 1979. In 1983, Ray retired due to reoccurring cancer. Patrick S. McCalman started practice with Mark Murphy in 1994 and the firm became Murphy, Murphy & McCalman in 1998. Patrick McCalman left the firm in March of 2014 and the firm name became Murphy & Murphy Attorneys P C. The firm has dedicated the major portion of its time to real estate, probate, banking and corporate work over the years and our extensive records allow us to do thorough work.
